The AWA Closes

awa-logoIt is our unfortunate duty of WrestlingMidwest.com to report that good friend and partner of Wrestling Midwest, Apex Wrestling Association (AWA) has officially closed it’s doors as of 8am on Tuesday, December 7th, 2009. AWA Owner JC Barr made the announcement on the official AWA site. WMW Owner Brad Johnson released the following statement to the press.

“We’re definitely saddened by the news,” said Johnson, “but we’ll move forward. [JC] Barr is and will continue to be a good friend. We understand why he made his decision and respect him for it. It was definitely difficult for everyone involved.”

Rumors have been swirling since yesterday concerning a possible partnership between WMW and WfWA, a regional-based organization similar to the AWA. All though Johnson would not officially confirm what his meeting in St. Louis yesterday was for, he did say that he continues to look for ways to increase Wrestling Midwest’s reach.

“We knew going in that the AWA was going to help us greatly,” he said, “and, for all intents and purposes, it has. Since joining up with AWA, we’ve been able to reach a lot of national media outlets, like EWTorch, WWR, and EWZine. The exposure we saw after working with Barr was more than enough proof that joining and staying with AWA was the right decision. Because of those feelings, I can honestly say that what we were doing [in St. Louis] was about continuing that trend, and should have had no part in the decision that was made this morning.”
