week-in-review[The cameras go on and We are treated to seeing the WMW News studio where Jane Coughlin sits in a chair in the middle of the shot, a small table in front of her containing various papers and the like. Jane smiles into the camera and nods briefly before speaking:]

Jane Coughlin – Hello and welcome everyone to the return of Jane Says. We took a long break, but management decided it was time to give this another go and so, here we are, ready to recap the events of this past week in WMW wrestling, and look ahead to what’s coming up. First, the WMW Injury report.

At current, our only confirmed injuries are Shank and Jade. Shank was injured when Adam Allocco took a steel chair to his knee and Jade suffered a concussion and a neck injury in her match with Kronin. Reports indicate that Shank should be making a return soon here but Jade will be out for a thus far undetermined amount of time.

Now, onto general news. In a shocker on GS 96, Valora came out and retired the WMW Hardcore Championship belt, citing no competition. She declared a new goal for herself and put the WMW on notice that she plans to capture and hold every title in the WMW, at the same time if possible, individually if needed. The only move more stunning then that happened last week and continued into this week when Sault St. Marie came out and allowed her to keep the newly retired belt. He also went ahead and set the stage for getting Valora right into the mix of things in the Ace Superior Division as he booked Valora in a match against former Ace Superior Champion, Druscilla. These two women have been itching for a fight with each other and had been interfering in matches for a couple of weeks now and WMW Management stepped up and made the match. And on that note… we go into the review portion of the show where we take a look at how things went down in the show, and my thoughts about them.

The show opened with Sault St. Marie standing in the ring, and as an aside, I really am a fan of Sault St. Marie in the GM box. He has exponentially increased ratings, has really made WMW a trend setter in the world of wrestling and is so much easier to talk to then an animated Dress. He also has managed to keep the wrestlers happy, which can be tricky sometimes… all in all, I have to say he’s a big success as GM thus far. In the show opener, he dropped a major bomb, bringing Jack Reynolds out to announce the First Annual Jack Reynolds Invitational Tournament, wherein WMW superstars will be competing for the right to face Jack Reynolds for the WMW Shoot title that Reynolds used his title shot to bring out of retirement last night. In his speech, Jack Reynolds really gave us all a history lesson and reminded us about what makes WMW so great. History, Dignity, Respect. WMW does not follow the tune of every other fed out there, does not waste money globetrotting when they should be shoring up their financial base, they recruit and develop great talent. Just look at the talent that WMW has brought in from outside sources:

  • Jade- from various Japanese Feds
  • Kronin-a Veteran of Hardcore Wrestling Alliance and Pride Championship Wrestling
  • Amariie- Of the same companies
  • Valora- of the same companies
  • Druscilla- Of the British pro fighter circuit and the Gladiator program
  • Hecate- MMA fighter
  • Audrie McLaughlin- a true globetrotter who has fought in countless feds
  • and countless others.

WMW has brought the world to Cleveland, built up a solid fan base and following and stayed under the radar by remaining a regional promotion. Built up slowly, inch by inch, and is now in a spot to make the next big step and become a national promotion. In my opinion, WMW has the money and the resources to do it too, though more on that in my upcoming news segment. The basic point of Reynolds’ speech, and it’s one of the things I like best about this company, is that to watch WMW is to watch the haydays of Pro-Wrestlings past. So many of our superstars here give nods and omages to the great ones who paved the way. WMW is classic wrestling and innovative at the same time. It is one of the few feds that does not segregate women into their own division, but let’s anyone compete for every title. Our titles mean something because of what a person has to go through to earn and keep them. WMW can book a simple ladder match and WMW fans know they will see something unique, whether it’s Jade’s shooting star press from the top of the ladder onto AWS Man, Valora vaulting over the ladder into a makeshift springboard leg drop onto Adam Pyre, or anyone of a number of big moments. WMW superstars, every superstar on the roster can step up and deliver a big game performance in the big match. No one took Midnight seriously, yet she fought Valora in a buried Alive match at High Stakes 2009 and stepped up her game in what many people thought was the match of the year for singles competition, though the best match over all of the year, had to be the All-In Challenge… who can forget AWS Man going from number 1 and last all the way, beating Kronin in that classic one on one showdown as they were the last men standing. WMW delivers, plain and simple… that was the point of Jack Reynolds’ comments last night and I believe this latest move will continue to elevate WMW and showcase just what we can do.

From the bombshell announcements of Sault St. Marie and Jack Reynolds, We went to an office scene where Mr. Videogame and Sault St. Marie spoke on matters concerning Mr. Videogame’s return and his future here in WMW. Not much was really revealed here, but I am interested to see what developments from from this little meeting.

We then went right into in ring action as the Midwest Tag League 2 continued on towards it’s close. This match saw Valora and Mr. Videogame square off against Father Nathan and Adam Allocco, though in truth, it was really Father Nathan in a handicap match as Adam Allocco failed to really make an contribution to the match and Father Nathan still damn near won the match a couple of times. There has been some talk about Valora carrying her team, that Mr. Videogame has somehow failed to pull his weight in this tournament, but I don’t see where that is the case. Valora and Mr. Videogame are undefeated as a team and you don’t get an unbeaten streak without both team members pulling their weight and contributing to the team. The fact that Valora has not yet criticized Mr. Videogame and has in fact seemed to kind of enjoy teaming with him is further evidence that Valora is happy with the set-up. Mr. Videogame may not be the perfect partner for the fast paced, high flying Valora, but he is definitely a solid partner to her and brings some much needed strength and power to the team.

As for the match itself… this match was amazing, Valora was in rare form and the move of the night goes to her and Mr. Videogame. Valora running up to the ropes and hurling herself over in a Aztec Moonsault followed almost immediately by Videogame hitting Nathan and Adam with a splash of his own was definitely one of the highlights as was the Corkscrew diving headbutt move that Valora used to get the pin on Adam Allocco and the win for her team.

Our next match of the night featured Damian Knight against Amariie in a 1st round match of the Jack Reynolds Invitational tournament. This match was nothing spectacular, but Amariie used her brains and outsmarted the self-styled business man Damian Knight, winning the match with a basic school boy roll up. An embarrassing loss for Knight to be sure, but we will see if he can rebound next week at GS 98. After the match, we saw that Jack Reynolds was watching the match and seemed eager to face her.

Our next Match was also a part of the 1st round of the Jack Reynolds invitational tournament, this time pitting Dess against Mo’Bad. Now, I kinda like both these men and have been really excited at Dess’ return. Can’t argue with a Hall of Famer coming back to see if he can compete with the young lions of today. This match was very exciting to watch and was very close…but in the end, Dess was able to squeak by with the victory. The move of the match had to be the Dessolation which brought Dess his first win since his return to WMW. After the match, we again saw evidence that Jack Reynolds is watching and taking a keen interest in how his tournament unfolds. You can bet he plans to be ready for the winner.

What came next was everything we thought it would be. 6 of the best that WMW has to offer. 3 WMW Hall of Famers and 3 future Hall of Famers and all 6 men either current or former champions… the two stables of WMW fighting for dominance… That Damn Awesome vs the Pinnacle of Power. Kronin, Ryven and Vyper facing off against AWS Man, Adam Pyre, and Umbrage. This match was booked shortly after a backstage explosion last week, when That Damn Awesome ambushed Kronin backstage during an interview with yours truly and Scott Vyper and Ryven got involved as well, coming to Kronin’s aid. All 6 men in this match have personal issues with a member from the other team and it came out in the match. There is no move of the match for this match since there were a lot of potential candidates, Pyre flying over the ropes, catching the steel chair Umbrage tossed him in mid air and sacrificing his body to take out Vyper and Ryven was certainly one, as was Kronin’s last second counter of AWS Man’s counter… For those of you who missed it, let’s go back and take a look at the final seconds of the match….

[Jane turns towards the screen behind her as the replay is brought up and the camera zooms in...]

GS 97 Replay:

Kronin gets to his feet and pulls AWS Man (also known as Bill) up, kicking AWS Man (also known as Bill) in the gut and getting him in position for a powerbomb. AWS Man (also known as Bill) yells as he tries to counter, grabbing onto Kronin’s legs and trying to launch him over his back. Kronin acts fast and locks his hands in, flipping himself over AWS Man (also known as Bill), and using the momentum to slam AWS Man (also known as Bill) into the mat.]

Jack Gene – Death by Metal! Kronin just hit his own tag partner with Death by Metal! I can’t believe this!

Bill Hughes – Oh, I think they’re partners only in name, Jack!

Jane Coughlin – And just like that, Kronin, who had spent the majority of the match firing up the crowd and rooting on his teammates, delivered the win and proved once again that he can hit the Death by Metal any time, in a variety of ways and more importantly, he got a pinfall over AWS Man in the process. With Kronin gunning for the GLC, what sort of effect will this have on both men?

After that match, we had a short segment of Mo’Bad leaving flowers at the door of one Valora, WMW’s last Hardcore Champion and resident sociopath. A dangerous game to be playing against Valora who is known for being many things, but romantic, not among them. Shortly after that, Hecate came and paid Valora a visit and we got some insight into Valora and if she really is comparing herself to the Comedian from Watchmen well…count me glad that I don’t have to step into the ring with her. Valora seemed calm and unphased about her upcoming match with Druscilla, though in retrospect, I’ve never really seen her rattled before a match before either so…

That led us to…. the main event of the match, and for good reason. This was, in my opinion, right up there with the 6 man tag for match of the night. Valora was looking to make an impression in her first ASC match and she did just that, as she beat Druscilla in hard fought, back and forth battle, refusing to let the high impact, power moves of Druscilla keep her down and taking Druscilla down with the Trouble in Paradise and Aztec Moonsault moves. Move of the match…again, we have a couple of contenders… Druscilla throwing Valora from the ring into the crowd definitely has to be considered one of them as does the Firecrotch Flying Guillotine Leg Drop that Valora pulled out and hit Druscilla with. Though my two main candidates would have to be Druscilla’s military press into the impact DDT and Valora counter to the choke slam, rolling through and turning it into an armbar submission hold, my move of the match, even though she lost, goes to Druscilla with the military press into the impact DDT.

That was Graveyard Shift 97, the most recent example of the high quality wrestling show that the fans of WMW have come to expect from the company. Now it’s time for our look ahead.

No matches have been booked for Graveyard Shift 98 at the time of this recording, but we can expect another great show, that’s for sure and as we get ever closer to El Dia De Las Muertos, the championship races are beginning to take shape and become clearer.

In the Heartlands Division, Audrie managed to prove the popular thought that Hecate had no serious competition wrong when she produced the first loss on Hecate, by beating her in a stunning match. Allocco has been making a lot of noise about a Heartlands title shot but his performance in the ring has failed to put him in a position to make a serious challenge, leaving him on the outside looking in as it looks like Audrie will be meeting Hecate for the Heartlands Title at El Dia.

My picks for the Heartlands Division: Audrie vs Hecate at El Dia for the Heartlands Championship and I expect this to be a close, brutal and hard fought match that’s too close to call at the moment. I’ll make my pick for this a bit later on.

In the Ace Superior Division, we have a hot race building. Ryven shocked the WMW world when he defeated Druscilla in 3 stages of Hell match, once more making her tap out and then that stunning move when he drew blood on Druscilla for the first time ever by stabbing her with her own pendant. Since wresting control of the ASC away from Druscilla, Ryven has found himself surrounded by challengers. Father Nathan, who had been keeping a low profile since his loss to Druscilla, has come out of nowhere and has been on fire recently, racking up 2 big ASC divisional wins, defeating John Bundy in a matter of seconds and then keeping his momentum going by overcoming Dess as well. Valora’s impressive win last night over Druscilla has put her in the race as well and this just in…I’m being told now that we have our first match booked for GS 98. Valora vs Father Nathan.. if Father Nathan defeats Valora, he will pretty much have a lock as the number one contender but if Valora can end his winning streak, she and he will be tied heading down the road to El Dia and the ASC title race will get much more exciting. Then there’s Druscilla. If we know anything about Druscilla it’s that she will not take this loss lying down. Expect to see her get up and make another run for the belt soon.

My Picks for the ASC: Much as she scares me, I’m going to jump on the Valora bandwagon here and say the title match will be Valora vs Ryven at El Dia and my pick to win the match is Valora, given the rumors I’ve heard about El Dia and the fact that Ryven is one of only 3 people to defeat Valora in WMW. I believe she is going to find away to step up her performance even more then she usually does… and she will have to as WMW’s mentalist Ryven is no slouch. It’s no accident that he has torn through the company and beaten the best it has to offer. Valora and Ryven will truly be a case of the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object and it will be the match of the night at El Dia, you can bank on that.

In the Great Lakes Championship division, the race has come down to Kronin and AWS Man…Jade’s injury removes her from the picture and that means, like it or not, AWS Man will likely find himself having to defend the belt against Kronin, though he is doing everything in his power to avoid that…

My picks for the GLC: Kronin vs AWS Man at El Dia for the GLC and I predict that Kronin will win because if he loses his third consecutive GLC title match to AWS Man, he will lose legitimacy as a GLC contender and will most likely find himself back among the mid carders. It’s time for Kronin to prove he is more then hype and to step up, and I think Kronin will do just that at El Dia.

Now, As far as the news and rumors go… have I got something good for you viewers. Rumor has it that WMW is planning a second road trip. You heard that right. Due to the high response we got on our midwest road trip, and the majority of our wrestlers who live outside of Cleveland, word is WMW is planning a second road trip this year. It will start at El Dia De La Muertos ‘09 when WMW goes to…MEXICO CITY! That is why I predict an ASC title win for Valora. If she wrestles Ryven in Mexico City for the belt… the fans will blow the roof off when Valora enters as she has become a national celebrity down there and that, mixed with the home field advantage mixed with Valora’s drive to be the best, will be a tall, tall order for Ryven to overcome. Now, I’m told that after El Dia, the WMW will be journeying through the Southern United States, making their way back towards Cleveland and testing the waters to see if National shows are a possibility. So to those WMW fans outside the midwest, if WMW does the road trip, make sure you come out and support us! Now, none of this has been confirmed yet and no cities have been announced, though I have heard cities such as New Orleans, Miami (Home of Mr. Videogame), Raleigh, North Carolina (Home of AWS Man), and a possible Baltimore/D.C. area show…. This is very exciting news and this is a golden opportunity for the fans of WMW to be with us in what could a huge transition if STO and Sault St. Marie do decide to take the next step and make WMW a national wrestling promotion. Now, to our loyal fans in Cleveland, I would like to say that if we do go National, I would expect we will still be in Cleveland for most of the year, the national step would be just broadcasting and slightly bigger road trip areas when we do hit the road… but I promise all of you I will stay on this story and update you all as I get more news.

[Jane then pauses a moment and shuffles through her papers, before smiling and nodding to herself and looking back into the camera.]

Jane Coughlin – Well, that’s all we have on the docket for this return show of ‘Jane Says’ Tune in next week, when hopefully we will have our first interview guest! Until then, this has been Jane Coughlin reporting for WMW News.
